Soccer: FA Cup starts in August

THE draws have been made for the early rounds of the FA Cup, FA Trophy and FA Vase.
While Cornard United, Hadleigh United, Halstead Town and Long Melford start FA Cup action on August 16, AFC Sudbury do not come into the competition until two weeks later.

FA Cup, extra preliminary round, August 16: Hadleigh United v Great Yarmou
th Town A, Whitton United v Cornard United B, Halstead Town v London APSA C, Long Melford v Boston D.

Preliminary round, August 30: AFC Sudbury v Lowestoft Town or St Ives, Gorleston or Fakenham Town v Winner D, Stowmarket Town or Ipswich Wanderers v Winner B, Winner C v Stotfold or Colney Heath, Winner A v Wroxham or Kirkley and Pakefield.

FA Trophy, preliminary round, October 4: Waltham Forest v AFC Sudbury.

FA Vase, second qualifying round, September 20: Haverhill Rovers or Ely City v Long Melford, Ipswich Wanderers v Hadleigh United, Halstead Town v Hanwell or Barking, Cornard United v Eynsbury Rovers.

l FORMER AFC and Sudbury Town player Steve Greaves has left his post of assistant Academy manager at Ipswich Town following a shake-up of backroom staff by manager Jim Magilton.

Greaves, a former professional with Ipswich Town, Fulham, Preston North End and Scunthorpe, never started a first-team game for AFC but came on twice from the bench in 1999-2000.

He was employed as a coach at the Ipswich Town Academy, and was promoted to assist with the youth team there at the start of 2004-2005 when he left AFC.

l CORNARD Dynamos under-13s Reds have a few vacancies in the squad and are looking for new players for next season.

Training takes place at Blackhouse Lane on Thursdays from 7-8pm, and on Saturdays from 9.30-11am. For more information, contact manager Colin Barnes on 01787 377516.

l THE second annual Acton Crown five-a-side tournament took place on Saturday, with Horse and Groom sides making the final of both the Cup and the Plate.

In the latter Horse and Groom A lost 1-0 to Gosfield. Their A team won the cup, beating Different Gravy on penalties.
