CORNARD United, whose FA Vase run came to an end at crisis club Wivenhoe last week, turn their attentions to the Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday, when SIL senior division side Capel Plough are the visitors to Blackhouse Lane for a second round tie (1.30pm).
"It will be hard," said Cornard manager Chris Symes. "SIL sides are no pushovers. They are doing well in their league at present."
Symes has taken Cornard to the semi-final stage three times as manager. "We are just three games from a Portman Road
final," he said.
Capel, who currently lie fourth in the senior division, beat Woodbridge Athletic 5-4 in the Senior Cup first round, Cornard beating Stowupland Falcons 1-0 at the same stage.
Symes was disappointed by Friday night's defeat at Wivenhoe, where the home side fielded most of the players who had refused to turn out in a league game the previous week.
"We still could have beaten them," said Symes. "It was probably one of our best displays of the season, and we created umpteen chances, but failed to make them count."
The Dragons went ahead in the first minute through Alex Campana, but Cornard gradually started to take control, with Sam Holman, Phil Kelly and Jason Carter dominating midfield.
Richie Meadows, Callum Aves and Danny Price all had good chances to level, but Wivenhoe broke out midway through the second half, Keith Young scoring. Lee Underwood settled it after 79 minutes with the third.
Walsall trained at Blackhouse Lane on Friday, prior to their Coca Cola League One visit to Colchester United the next day, where they won 2-0.
Michael Ricketts, who scored one of Walsall's goals, offered to turn out for Cornard at Wivenhoe as he was not expecting to be in the team at the Community Stadium.
Symes reluctantly had to decline, settling instead for another framed shirt for the clubhouse wall.
