AFC Sudbury's hopes of building on Saturday's win at Stourport received an early setback when their late arrival at Leighton Buzzard saw the pre-match warm-up considerably curtailed.
Town, looking to extend their unbeaten home run to seven matches, posed an early threat when a headed clearance from Tracey fell invitingly for Thomas who drove in a low shot narrowly past the post.

The first corner of the game saw Clarke react s
wiftly to head away Thomas's inswinging kick.

AFC should have taken the lead when Hawes split the home defence, allowing Bussens a clear run on goal, but his final touch was heavy, Root blocking at the expense of a corner.

Shortly after Curtis-Brown's long throw caused problems in the goalmouth, but Cashman was well positioned to head away Hawes' goalbound header.

Catley dropped smartly on to a long-range effort from Gordon before the home side took a 35th minute lead.

Clarke was brought down on the half-way line but, with AFC looking for a free kick, play was allowed to run on with Gordon racing into the penalty area only to be brought down by Catley's outstretched leg, a foul which surprisingly only brought a yellow card.

Gallant stepped up to easily beat Catley from the spot. The keeper's response was to kick the ball out the ground, which remarkably earned no further punishment.

Almost immediately after Rowe bustled into the penalty area where he looked to have been brought down, but despite furious protests play was waved on.

Town came out to boss the second half with Hatch's early header dropping just over the angle of bar and post.

A long throw from Cashman was only just scrambled away from the foot of the post, and then only a last-ditch tackle from Driver stopped Hatch.

As the attacks continued, Gordon twice shot straight at Catley before the lead was extended through a cruel goal when a tame shot from Gordon took a wicked deflection off Revell to divert into the opposite corner.

Five minutes later the result was put beyond doubt when Gallant's pass saw Gordon swivel through 90 degrees to send a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net.

AFC were denied even a consolation when Hammond's free kick found Hawes, only for his header to drop the wrong side of the post.

AFC Sudbury: Catley; Speed, Haynes-Brown, Hammond, Tracey (Revell 72), Driver, Bussens, Clarke, Hawes, Rowe, Jermy (Hunt 72). Subs (not used): Wright, Blackwell.
