Not just young

I READ with interest the letter from Mrs J Squirrell (August 7), regarding the young person in her letter. I agree with you fully, however as a young person myself, aged 19, I'd like to point out that age isn't really the deciding factor – I am a learner driver, and I have seen examples of diabolical driving from all age groups.
The problem with the younger generation is that some of them think they are driving a video game. They don’t seem to realise the dangers of using public roads as race tracks, and unfortunately many young people do have accidents.
But the real problem is maturity, some young people, men in particular, seem slow to develop it. But the main issues I have with these people is:
l They are putting themselves and other users at risk
l They give sensible young drivers like myself a bad reputation
l They are the chief cause of why insurance is so sky high for people like me. The cheapest deals I’ve come across for my age group are £1,000-£1,500. The thing to do is take these people, and anyone else who drives like a lunatic come to that, off the road, and ban them from driving until they can drive a car safely and responsibly.
