Reaction so far to this week's front page about the proposed development at Belle Vue Park...
David Riddleston writes: "Just what part of NO does Babergh Council not understand? Time and again the people of Sudbury have said they do not want to lose Belle Vue House or park, it's our Christchurch Park and Abbey Gardens and would Ipswich or Bury allow those to be built on? I think not.
"How McCarthy & Stone must be rubbing their hands together, if I were buying or renting a retirement flat I know where I would sooner be and that not next to a bus station and let's face it, people will pay for that.
"Yes, I know the bus station needs improving so why not a deal on planning permission with McCarthy in return for the purchase of a slice of land to improve it?
"As for Hardwick House, I've said it before, what about part of St.Leonards site or could it be that the NHS wants full market price and they think they will get a better deal from Babergh for Belle Vue ?
"Look how we let People's Park slip away only to regret it afterwards (Lets hope that gets reversed) Don't let's get into the same trap over Belle Vue,once it's gone it's gone.
"Now is the time to let those that serve (Babergh District Council) know what we the people of Sudbury want."
Mark Joiner writes: "Babergh District Council has completely ignored our concerns and wishes to keep Belle Vue House, and in this supposed democracy this is a most undemocratic and unfair way of doing things.
"Babergh has given its backing to the demolition of Belle Vue House and the partitioning of its adjacent park. Babergh, you have gone one step too far in flouting our concerns.
"Belle Vue House and park are great amenities to the town. If Babergh are thinking of going ahead with this without hearing our concerns, they are no better than dictators, forcing their agenda upon everyone. Belle Vue House Must be saved.
"Babergh will not rob us of Belle Vue House without a fight. The Sudbury Society helped save the Corn Exchange (now the Library) in the 1960s and now they help can us again.
"We must do our utmost not to let Babergh or anyone strip us of a part of our identity. Belle Vue House must not follow likes of her sister house Borehamgate, that truly great loss.
"I'd happily attend a demonstration with like-minded people to protest. We need to start a campaign, like we have for People's Park, and have legal advisers help Belle Vue out as well.
"Losing any of People's Park, Belle Vue House or Belle Vue park would be a great loss to our town. So Babergh, Hands Off Our Town."
Robert Benson writes: "As I read the SFP I was filled with rage to learn of Babergh's ridiculous proposal to swap part of our beautiful park for a derelict wasteland next to our not-so-scenic bus station.
"I quote Babergh's Nick Ridley 'the proposed land swap would double the benefit to the town of this once in a generation opportunity'.
"But what about the past and future generations who have used and will use our idyllic open space. I have vivid fond memories of Belle Vue Park, as I'm sure many readers will have, and agree with Sue Godfrey on this week's letters pages, 'please let's make a fuss or we will lose it'."
