It was a proud day as the latest batch of recruits to the Sudbury Firebreak scheme graduated.
The youngsters, from Great Cornard and Sudbury upper schools, the Ryes School and East Bergholt High School, spent a week learning firefighting skills.

The group learned how to safely climb ladders, uses hoses and rescue people from smoke-filled rooms.

Youngsters with behavioural problems are selected to go on the course and John Bromley, the lead instructor and officer in charge at Sudbury fire station, is convinced the course helps turn their lives around.

"It is good for them," he said. "They come here for a week and they gel together and learn how to work as a team. It certainly makes a positive impact."

After a week of hard work parents and teachers attended a passing-out ceremony for the pupils at the fire station on Friday.

It is the third Firebreak scheme to be held in Sudbury.
